a practice in relationship with plants, land, and ethnobotanical histories
My fiber art practice is rooted in exploration with natural dyes which are chemical compounds that can be found in certain plants, insects, fungi, lichen, and earth minerals.
A variety of color expressions can be created from one dye source depending on the type of fiber and any addition of chemical modifiers such as mineral iron.
I explore dyes that have been used across the world, spanning a variety of climates and cultural histories from my personal heritage and beyond. I love to learn and teach about the dyes from my local environment of Southern California. Through this artistic experience, we bridge connections to deeper layers of meaning and wonder with our shared landscape and collective histories.
